Road Closure - between 16 March
and 7 April 2020
Update - 27th March 2020 from Stacey Harris:
The below road closure is due to restart next Tuesday (31st March), I apologise about the short notice.
The closure will be for the original hours (09:30 – 15:30 Weekdays) and will be in place until Monday 6th April 2020.
This is necessary to complete resurfacing works that have currently left the road in an unsafe state.
This is in regards to the Tintern Station to Brockweir Bridge section of the works (Phase 1), the traffic management plan attached details the location of this.
The Brockweir to Catchmays Court section of the works (Phase 2) will be postponed until further notice.
Update - 17th March 2020:
Stacey Harris of Monmouthshire Highways has sent this to our Community Councillors:
"In a follow up to my previous email, there has been an alteration to the resurfacing programme at the A466. This is due to a conflict with a closure in Gloucestershire which was not brought to our attention until last Friday afternoon, despite a consultation period with Gloucestershire.
The Gloucestershire closure requires the use of Brockweir Bridge & Bigsweir Bridge between 19th March and 27th March. Therefore the Bigsweir Bridge closure will carry on as planned but will be finishing at the end of 18th March, providing nothing occurs outside of our control that will delay progress.
The plan for Phase 2 will be to split the site into 2 stages in order to keep Brockweir Bridge open during the Gloucestershire closure. Stage one will be from Tintern to just short of Brockweir Bridge from 23rd March to 27th March, (Pale blue line on attached plan) and the road will be closed between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30. All resurfacing works will be completed by the end of 27th March at this location.
Stage two will be from the area in front of Brockweir Bridge (and including Brockweir Bridge) to Catchmays Court from 30th March to 7th April (Green line on attached plan), the road will be closed between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30 on weekdays only. This stage will complete the resurfacing works on the A466.
I hope this change makes sense and doesn’t cause any additional inconvenience."
Update - 9th March 2020:
Our Community Councillors have received the information below from Stacey Harris of Monmouthshire Highways:
The closures are planned to facilitate the much needed resurfacing of areas of the A466 between Tintern and Bigsweir Bridge.
There are two areas being resurfaced, so the road closure has been split into two phases to minimise the disruption as much as possible.
From Bigsweir Bridge to The Conager – This will be in operation from 16th – 19th March 2020 between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30.
From Tintern (30mph marking on Tintern Station side) to Catchmays Court, this includes Brockweir Bridge - This will be in operation from 23rd March – 7th April 2020 between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30 and on weekdays only.
Tintern will be accessible from the Chepstow direction throughout the entirety of Phase 1 & 2, and ‘Business’s at Tintern open as usual’ signage will be put in place.
Brockweir Bridge will be closed throughout Phase 2 (Between 09:30 – 15:30 weekdays) as the lead up to the bridge will be resurfaced and there will be no access onto the A466. It will be open during Phase 1 but through traffic to Monmouth or Redbrook must turn left and follow diversion.
Access to Llandogo during the closure hours will be from the Tintern direction only during Phase 1, then from Redbrook direction only during Phase 2.
Through Traffic to Chepstow or Monmouth will be diverted along the B4293 via Trellech.
Residents within the closure will have access maintained where possible, however we ask that they wait to be escorted through the site safely and anticipate a short wait due to the movement of plant.
Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout.
The road closures will be in place for the planing and resurfacing elements of the schemes. Traffic Lights or Stop & Go Boards will follow the closure periods for a day or so to reinstate the lining.
Monmouthshire County Council’s Operations Team are undertaking the resurfacing works, so please direct any queries during the works to Stacey Harris or the Operations Team at email@example.com or 01633 644644.
